Sport Ireland Campus Uses Cloud-Based Security System for Real-Time Monitoring

Project: Installation of Cloud Based Security System

Sport Ireland is responsible for the development of sport in Ireland. To that end, the Sport Ireland Campus was built to host sporting events and facilitate the sporting community in performance, participation and recreational activities.

The Sport Ireland Campus is home to Irish sport of all types. It provides valuable amenities for all sports, sports academies, birthday parties, team-building events, corporate conferences and more. There are inclusive programmes for athletes with disabilities and people recovering from chronic illness.

Security Requirement

Sport Ireland facilities dac had a requirement for a new security system. Smart IP Based CCTV connected to the existing CCTV Network providing real time recording including night vision and remote connectivity. 

Action24 put forward a hybrid cloud based solution with edge based recording and cloud backup.

With multiple buildings on the campus, it was recommended for the project to be divided into 3 phases for the work to be completed.

The three phases of the project included:

  • 405 Verkada Cameras, 5MPX & 4K dome cameras, bullet cameras and fisheye cameras
  • 41 access-controlled doors
  • This equipment was connected/networked to the Verkada Command System

System Solution

CCTV

The security system installed was a mix of 4K and 5Mp Verkada IP Cameras with edge recording in each camera. The IP CCTV system provides monitoring of the campus buildings and car parks. 

Verkada’s hybrid cloud solution combines intelligent, plug-and-play security cameras with powerful cloud-based software that is easy to use from any device. Verkada eliminates the need for legacy infrastructure such as NVRs, DVRs, and servers and requires no configuration to work securely in any environment. 

The hybrid cloud solution utilises both local edge storage and processing on the camera and in the cloud. This results in a system architecture that is simple, more secure, and easier to operate and manage. 

The system records images from all cameras to the built-in hard drive on each camera and is controlled from the Administration office, security office and other viewing stations on the Sport Ireland Campus. All cameras are backed up to the cloud. The system records 24/7 to monitor day to day events and incidents.

Access Control

Phase two and three saw the addition of the Verkada Access Control solution.

Through Verkada Command, CCTV and Access Controlled Doors are connected seamlessly to deliver real–time video analytics on access events. Using Verkada’s industry–leading edge–based video processing, users can not only see what is happening at their points of entry, but also proactively take action for meaningful events.

Looking Forward

The successful deployment of the new hybrid cloud solution allows the Sport Ireland Campus to monitor activity across all sites from a centralized web-based platform and facilitates expansion of the CCTV and Access Control coverage around different buildings on the campus to gain better visibility of the campus when and if required. 

From one centralised platform, the client can manage all sites at scale across any number of properties. At the same time, we can provide users at each location with custom access permissions to view and manage their own areas.
